He and Steve Wickham are kind ofthe glimmer twins of folk roots. They both seem really geniune, if a little indulgent, but it was a great gig nonetheless (read review elsewhere onthe site!)
The Waterboys. Are they Irish? I dont know. Went to see them the other night doing their An Appointment with Mr Yeats, a tribute to the poet. Partly the gig was a bit like 'the emperors new clothes' or a clap and standing ovation because it is a real blend of intelligent art. Mike Scott really reminds me of a cross betwen Mick Jagger and Richard Ashcroft. But what i want to know is if Mike Scott embraced an English (as distinct from 'British') icon would he be held up as such a genius. Instead 'getting in touch with his celtic side' is seen as great, whilst still maintaining his artistic integrity!
