Why oh why, when she can give us songs as brilliantly delicate and yet sexual on things like Young, Willing and Able. Then the psychadelic (racially mixed) band she sprung out of - Rotary Connection with powerful shared vocals by Minnie and (presumably) Dave Scott on tracks like I am the Black Gold Of The Sun. There are some exceptional tracks on Minnie's collection, but some real flops as well. Maybe cherry pick it!!
Minnie Riperton. There was me thinking she was an untouchable icon of 60's and 70's black soul women with a voice as strong (but strongly different) as Aretha's. And then she goes and let's me hear her Anthology. Les Fleurs. And the 'climax' is Light My Fire with her and Jose Feliciano both crucifying it! I knew Jose had done it - I had seen him play live recently, but for her to waste her voice on a song that can't be bettered (and is seldom equalled!).
